X linking coming to the uk

Post by Sajeev »

Just got of the phone and wanted to give you guys the news from over here in the uk.

The first steps are underway to bring x linking to the uk. A independant study will be done and then a full scale roll out is hoped to take place in the uk.

Starting in the new year i am going to be hopfully be passed to have x linking done over here.

I was told that the study will be done randomly on one eye of 30 people with kc. And the other eye will be the "control" eye for the study. Then after the study the other eye will be done.

First of all the ethics committee over here will hopfully (vey likely) pass it.
It's such a slow proccess but i'm glad it has started!!

Thanks for listerning!!

Best regards o-k o-k o-k

Thanks Markus! I think i'll put my self forward... the only trouble is it will be random as to which eye will be treated to keep it scientific. I wish that my worst eye is the randomly picked one for treatment, on the other hand my better eye may benfit more from the treatment. But do you want your better eye touched as it may never progress?

Its difficult to decide as to which eye to do first anyway for a patient, but i think doing one eye at a time is the best thing to do. Which to do first? i am not sure? If the worst eye is done first the better eye when it is done and recovering will have low vision and so the person will have low vision in both eyes. However the selection will be taken off my hands and be done by drawing a numbered ball out of a bag (like what happens in football)

One thing is that at least i can have it done in the UK (would rather come to Germany as they have more experiance but being closer to home helps i think in having some support and not needing to travel)

I hear that x linking is looked upon as a "routine" treatment for kc for some doctors in Germany as they are light years a head of the others!

All the best mate and take care

I just re-read your post Sabine and realised that you asked me a question... and a very good question!

Well my thinking is that i could live with what sight i have now (night time driving problems though!) I don't need to do x linking, i wish i knew about it earlier or i got my kc recently.

I am doing x linking because ark can not correct my worst eye fully by a good chance on one visit, as my kc is advanced in my worst eye (i am contact lens intolerant), intacs means having something in your eye, lens implants is the same thing and is too new. So there is not much i would like to do.

x linking to me is the most minimal treament on offer, and i have about 60% (some percentages in studies are a bit more higher) chance of regression of two lines. So there may be more regression than this or less than this, but some regression. So i'll take a chance.

Would love to get a bit more regression on my better eye and that would help a lot, but i will like my worst eye done first (i don't have a choice in the matter really as it will be randomly selected, which eye is done)

Hopfully some more regression in my worst eye will lower my headaches, but i noticed going out and have a few drinks and relaxing once a week helps alot (well its a good excuse to use with the wife when you want stay out all night lol)

I feel confident (good oman?)

Catch ya later kind people!

I did see an edit button, just did not know how to submit the post after editing (i was pressing all sorts of things and it was not happening)... i looked on my profile to change languages but could not find it either...

Can someone with my email please just let me know how to change languages step by step as i'm a real dunce when it comes to reading German!

Anyway, thanks very much Andreas for the advice and editing.

Keratoconus since: Die erste richtige Diagnose kam so 1978 - erst irregulärer Astigmatismus, dann Keratokonus.
Experience with eyeglasses / lenses: Ich komme gut mit verschiedenen Brillen zurecht (Hell&Fern; NormalesTageslicht/Nah; Dunkel/Fern; Dunkel/Nah; reichen fast immer.
Operationen: Keine OP´s
Begeiterscheinungen: trockene Augen; trockene Haut; Augen-jucken

? does it help ? - may it looks a little different in your browser - I take this screenshots with MS Internet Explorer on an XP-System.

If it does not work in your browser: try to change your internet explorer options (cache to minimum, reload every time, ...) and / or check your internet security settings (Norton Internet Security, Kaspersky, your Firewall, ....)
